Sawday’s is a certified B Corp connecting travelers with independent accommodations in the UK and Europe. I love their mission to make travel better for the environment and the communities it impacts.
While browsing the site, I noticed several instances of low-contrast text and small type, two common accessibility issues that may impact the experience for some visitors.
Addressing just these two types of issues would greatly improve the accessibility of the website.
This UX review looks at Sawday’s accommodation listings page and highlights opportunities to make it more accessible.
Opportunities to improve accessibility
The listings page (see below) has several instances of low-contrast text and small type.
According to the 2025 WebAIM Million report, an accessibility analysis of the top 1,000,000 home pages, low-contrast text was the most common issue, appearing on 79.1% of sites.

Low-contrast text
Low contrast can make essential information difficult to perceive, especially for users with visual impairments or when viewing screens in bright lighting conditions.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) recommend a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for standard text and 3:1 for large text.
WAVE (see below) scans text and background colors to identify instances that don’t meet WCAG contrast requirements.

The WebAIM Contrast Checker (see below) displays the contrast ratio between two colors and helps identify alternatives that meet accessibility standards.

Small type
Visitors with low vision, age-related vision changes, or those browsing on mobile devices may find small text difficult to read comfortably, increasing effort during comparison and decision-making.
Design exploration
To explore potential improvements, I created a conceptual wireframe (see below) that illustrates how small adjustments could improve the visual accessibility of the listings page.
This wireframe represents one possible direction rather than a finalized redesign.

Adjusting color contrast and slightly increasing text size can greatly improve accessibility while maintaining brand identity and without changing the overall design aesthetic.
